2009 French Quarter Festival
Sal Mannino, staff writer
The French Quarter Festival was created to bring locals and tourists
to the Quarter to promote business and shopping prior to the 1984
World's Fair. Months before that special event, the merchants
suffered from street and sidewalk closures for renovations in
preparation for the big Expo. The idea was to throw a party to
bring people back to the Quarter...which now has turned into the
largest free music and food festival in the South drawing over
400,000 people and with an economic impact of over 70 million
dollars.
The French Quarter Festival takes place throughout the French
Quarter and along Woldenberg Riverfront Park and offers over 100
FREE performances by popular local musicians on numerous stages.
Jackson Square is home to the "World's Largest Jazz Brunch"
all three days and features food from at least 60 local restaurants.
For many locals, the French Quarter Festival is the absolute
best festival of the year. So, come to the Vieux Carre` and enjoy
this year's fest!
French Quarter Festival is produced by French Quarter Festivals Inc. which also produces Satchmo SummerFest in August and Christmas New Orleans Style annually. Visit www.fqfi.org for more information on all the special events.
